About Whalio

Whalio measures what is actually being traded on Binance spot markets and publishes the result. Most crypto sites report prices. Prices tell you where a market ended up; order flow tells you how it got there - whether the volume behind a move was buyers lifting offers or sellers hitting bids.

What the service does

Every hour Whalio pulls closed candles from the Binance public API for around 150 crypto assets and stores the parts most sites throw away: how much of each period's turnover hit the ask rather than the bid. From that it computes the buy ratio, volume delta and cumulative volume delta you see across the site.

Those measurements go back roughly nine months at hourly resolution, which is what lets a reading be put in context. A buy ratio of 56% means nothing on its own; against a coin's own year it can be an ordinary Tuesday or one of its strongest buying days, and the coin pages say which.

Alongside that, Whalio tracks crypto news per asset and pairs each story with what the flow was doing when it broke and what it did in the day after. The news maps lay the two over each other.

Where the data comes from

Order-flow figures are computed by Whalio from Binance spot klines - the exchange's own record of each period's volume, trade count and taker buy volume. Nothing in that part of the site is taken from another analytics provider.

Market capitalisation, rank and asset metadata come from CoinMarketCap. News headlines come from a third-party news API, and each story credits and links the outlet that reported it.

The methodology page gives the formulas, the update schedule, and the limits - including the ones that matter most, like the fact that this is spot data from a single exchange.

What Whalio is not

It is not an advisory service, a broker or a signal provider. It does not know your circumstances and does not tell you what to buy. It reports what an exchange's tape did and what the press said, and leaves the conclusions to you. Crypto-asset prices are volatile and you can lose everything you put in.
