Algorand appoints ex-Chainlink exec William Herkelrath as CEO
bsc.news reports that William Herkelrath has officially assumed the role of CEO at the Algorand Foundation, succeeding Staci Warden on August 31. Herkelrath brings over 25 years of experience in FinTech leadership, having previously held executive positions at Chainlink and Curv, which was acquired by PayPal in 2021. He co-founded K3 Labs, an AI automation platform, and aims to make the Algorand Foundation financially self-sustaining within five years.
The foundation is pursuing a strategy focused on institutional business expansion and quantum-resistant technology. Algorand has already launched post-quantum accounts in production and executed the first post-quantum transaction using NIST-selected Falcon signatures. Herkelrath stated that Algorand built a quantum-resilient world years before the industry recognized the threat.
The network aims to make post-quantum protection the standard by 2027, with multisignature wallets and staking support rolling out in 2026. The board has also been updated, with Herkelrath and Alex Fowler joining while Rebecca Rettig and Michael Mosier exit.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for ALGO, measured when this story was written up on 1 October 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
ALGO is trading at $0.1239 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 51.4%, indicating that buying pressure has been dominant over the full day. However, the 1-hour buy ratio has dropped sharply to 25.2%, suggesting that immediate buying momentum is fading compared to the longer-term trend. The 24-hour volume delta is positive at $167,562, showing net accumulation over the day, but the 1-hour delta is negative at -$48,364, indicating recent selling pressure. The 4-hour buy ratio sits at 50.2%, showing a balance between buyers and sellers in the medium term. This shift suggests that while the day ended with net buying, short-term traders are currently reducing their exposure.
The latest daily buy ratio of 54.0% sits at the 90th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.9% - among the strongest buying days it has had.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for ALGO, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, ALGO saw a 7-day average buy ratio of 51.7%, which is nearly identical to the current 24-hour reading of 51.4%. Volume over the last 24 hours was 0.63x the weekly average, indicating that trading activity is lighter than usual. The coin experienced an 18.8% price increase over the past eight days, supported by a total volume delta of $2,771,109. With six of the last seven days showing net buying, the current day fits the pattern of the recent week, though volume is subdued. This represents an ordinary day for the coin in terms of directional bias, despite the lower volume relative to the weekly norm.
