Upbit Delists BONK as Bithumb Resumes Trading

Bonk (BONK) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that Upbit is ceasing support for BONK trading on Monday, removing one of the two major South Korean exchanges for the Solana meme coin. Upbit will cancel open orders for BONK/KRW and BONK/USDT pairs at 15:00 KST on September 7, 2026, while withdrawals remain available until October 7. This decision follows a security incident involving BonkDAO, where the treasury lost approximately $20 million after a hacker spent $4.4 million to gain voting rights.

The attack transferred 4.43 trillion BONK out of the treasury without a time lock, though BONK operations continued unaffected. Upbit maintained its trading caution status because it believed the grounds for the issue were not resolved, whereas Bithumb lifted its caution on August 7 after deeming the issues resolved. DAXA’s Best Practices for Listing Virtual Assets framework highlights that exchanges have discretion in judging whether remediation and disclosure were sufficient.

Consequently, Bithumb resumed deposits and trading, while Upbit chose to halt support. Despite the delisting, BONK remains available on Binance, Coinbase, Bybit, Kraken, and Solana-based decentralized exchanges. The token’s price rose about 6.1% to $0.00000345 over 24 hours, with $134 million in trades recorded. An announcement on X clarified that $BONK and BonkDAO are distinct entities, though the security concerns still influence exchange risk profiles.

Whalio’s Binance spot data shows a buy ratio of 52.5% over the last 24 hours, indicating that buying pressure has slightly outweighed selling pressure during this period. In contrast, the 1-hour buy ratio sits at 49.6%, suggesting that short-term momentum is currently fading compared to the longer daily trend. The 4-hour buy ratio of 51.1% reflects a moderate balance between buyers and sellers, sitting between the immediate and daily readings. Volume delta data reveals a positive cumulative value of $382,333 over 24 hours, meaning net buying has occurred over the day. However, the 1-hour volume delta is negative at -$1,464, indicating that recent trading activity has seen more selling than buying. This divergence suggests that while the day has been net positive, the immediate flow is turning bearish.

The latest daily buy ratio of 48.9% sits at the 38th percentile of the last 324 days, against a median of 49.6% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 48.7%, meaning today’s 24-hour ratio of 52.5% represents a notable shift toward buying. This 3.8 percentage point increase above the weekly average signals that today is an unusual day for the coin, with buying interest significantly outpacing the recent norm. Volume activity has also surged, with today’s volume being 2.03 times the weekly average, confirming heightened trader engagement. While the 8-day volume delta was negative overall at -$45,819, today’s positive flow contributes to a recent price increase of 22.2% over eight days. This context places today’s trading activity as a distinct spike in volume and buy pressure compared to the quieter preceding days.
