Compound governance votes on treasury delay and veto powers

Compound (COMP) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that COMP holders are voting on Proposal 612, which opens on Sunday and closes on Wednesday, October 7. The proposal seeks to extend treasury withdrawal delays from two days to ten days. It also grants the Governor Timelock the power to cancel treasury transactions before they execute.

Delegate Ugur Mersin submitted the proposal on October 2 to increase the Treasury Escrow withdrawal cooldown. The new rules set an escrow expiration period of 17 days, creating a 7-day withdrawal window after the cooldown. Two of five actions in the proposal assign EXECUTOR_ROLE and CANCELLER_ROLE to the Governor Timelock.

This allows governance to prevent treasury operations rather than just reacting after the fact. The changes raise questions about how much control can be added before the protocol appears centralized. The core concern is who will ultimately take charge of Compound’s treasury. These technical changes aim to provide better protection for the protocol's assets.

COMP is trading at $25.05 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 28.7%, which is significantly lower than the 44.6% seen over the past 4 hours. This drop suggests that immediate buying pressure is fading compared to the broader recent trend. The 24-hour buy ratio sits at 47.2%, indicating that buying is still slightly below parity over the full day. Volume Delta is negative across all timeframes, with -$14,317 in the last hour and -$7,250 over four hours. This negative delta means that sell volume is outpacing buy volume in both short windows. Over 24 hours, the Volume Delta is -$39,873, showing consistent selling pressure throughout the day.

The latest daily buy ratio of 49.4% sits at the 35th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 51.1% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 48.5%, making today’s 24-hour ratio of 47.2% slightly below the norm. The current day shows a buy ratio that is 1.3 points lower than the weekly average. Spot volume is also subdued, trading at 0.46 times the weekly average. This indicates that today is an unusually quiet day for COMP trading activity. While the price rose 6.5% over eight days, the recent volume contraction suggests a pause in momentum. Net buying occurred on only 4 of the past 7 days, with a total Volume Delta of -$217,759 for the period.
