Polkadot Runtime v2.5.0 Introduces New Governance Tracks

Polkadot (DOT) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Techgaged.com reports that Polkadot has introduced two new specialized governance tracks in its runtime v2.5.0 release. These changes create separate pathways for technical maintenance decisions and economic emergencies within the network. The upgrade was presented to the community in a runtime release notice during September.

The first track, technical_maintenance, is intended for operational parameters such as quotas, allowances, limits, and anti-spam fees. The second track, prosperity_emergency, serves as a mechanism for protecting economic systems when urgent intervention is required. Polkadot’s OpenGov architecture already separates proposals into different tracks with distinct origins, voting requirements, and timelines.

Adding these specialized tracks allows the network to avoid treating every decision as if it carries the same risk or urgency. Runtime v2.5.0 also includes integration work for multiple Individuality SDK components inside People Polkadot and Asset Hub Polkadot. This shift supports Polkadot’s move of functionality away from the relay chain into dedicated system chains.

As more operational logic moves into specialized chains, governance requires more precise tools for maintaining them. This evolution refines OpenGov into an operating system for a multi-chain ecosystem with distinct decision paths. The immediate effect for DOT holders is governance-related rather than monetary.

Polkadot (DOT) is trading at $1.19 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 51.2%, indicating a slight majority of buyers over sellers on a daily scale. However, shorter-term pressure shows divergence, with the 1-hour buy ratio at 49.7% and the 4-hour ratio dropping to 46.3%. This suggests that buying momentum is currently fading in the immediate term compared to the daily average. Volume Delta for the 1-hour period is -$1,955 and -$99,355 for the 4-hour window, indicating net selling pressure in the short term. In contrast, the 24-hour Volume Delta is positive at +$229,017, showing that net buying has occurred over the full day. The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close is -$642,542, reflecting that large trades have been predominantly sell-side despite the higher buy ratio. Net buying occurred for only 5 out of 24 hours, highlighting intermittent rather than sustained demand.

The latest daily buy ratio of 48.8% sits at the 47th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 48.9% - ordinary for this coin.
