MultiversX Supernova Upgrade Targets 10x Speed Increase

MultiversX (EGLD) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cvj.ai reports that MultiversX will activate its Supernova upgrade on September 10 during epoch 2233, aiming to increase network speed tenfold. The upgrade reduces block times from six seconds to 600 milliseconds by restructuring the consensus pipeline to allow parallel voting and execution. This architectural shift targets intra-shard finality below 250 milliseconds and cuts cross-shard settlement from approximately 18 seconds to 2.4 seconds.

To achieve this, over 5,000 node operators must migrate to new software capable of processing the upgraded rules. As of September 1, 95.35% of the 5,171 nodes were still running the old v1.11.11.0 version, establishing a baseline for the nine-day migration window. The transition includes a temporary 24-minute pause where the network stops accepting new pool transactions to clear those already in flight.

New transactions submitted during this period will remain queued until Supernova begins processing them. The upgrade maintains backward compatibility for addresses, keys, and balances to ensure a smoother transition for users. Success depends on whether the network’s version mix shifts decisively toward Supernova ahead of round 32157661. If coordination arrives on schedule, attention will turn to whether the upgrade delivers its promised speed on mainnet.

EGLD is trading at $4.02 on Binance spot, with a 24-hour buy ratio of 46.6% indicating that buying pressure has been consistent over the last day. However, the 1-hour buy ratio has dropped to 41.1%, suggesting that immediate buying momentum is fading compared to the broader daily trend. The 4-hour buy ratio sits at 46.1%, which is slightly higher than the 1-hour reading but still below the 24-hour average, showing a short-term shift toward selling. Volume delta metrics reflect this weakening demand, with -$8,624 recorded in the last hour and -$27,096 over the past four hours. The cumulative volume delta for the 24-hour period is -$44,957, meaning that sell volume has exceeded buy volume over the entire day. This negative flow indicates that despite the price holding near $4, traders have been net sellers throughout the period.

The latest daily buy ratio of 45.3% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.5% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, EGLD experienced a price increase of 18.4% and recorded a total volume delta of +$24,518, indicating a period of net buying. The current 24-hour buy ratio of 46.6% is lower than the weekly average of 49.4%, showing that today’s buying intensity is weaker than the recent norm. Additionally, today’s spot volume of $672,725 is only 0.89 times the weekly average, confirming that trading activity is subdued compared to the previous seven days. This represents an unusual day for the coin, characterized by lower volume and reduced buying pressure relative to the recent uptrend. While the weekly trend was positive, the current data points to a cooling off in market participation.
