Spark to deprecate SparkLend on Gnosis Chain by September 14

Gnosis (GNO) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Cryptobriefing.com reports that Spark Finance is winding down its SparkLend deployment on Gnosis Chain due to persistently low usage and negligible revenue. The protocol will fully deprecate the Gnosis instance by September 14, 2026, meaning outstanding loans become eligible for liquidation once a Sky governance spell executes. Spark began this wind-down in early 2026 by freezing new deposits and borrows to limit capital exposure.

To accelerate the drawdown of positions, the protocol raised the reserve factor to 50% across all assets on the Gnosis deployment. This move makes staying in the market progressively less attractive for borrowers holding positions. Affected assets include WXDAI, sDAI, WETH, wstETH, EURe, USDT, USDC.e, GNO, and USDC.

Spark left the door open to returning if market conditions on Gnosis improve materially. The shutdown fits a pattern of risk-reduction steps taken earlier in 2026 against underperforming assets.

GNO is trading at $116.09 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 77.1%, indicating strong short-term buying pressure compared to the 24-hour ratio of 35.1%. The 4-hour buy ratio sits at 59.5%, suggesting that buying interest is building over the medium term rather than fading. Volume delta shows a net inflow of $1,371 in the last hour and $1,999 over four hours, contrasting with a $45,124 net outflow over the past day. This indicates that recent trades are favoring buyers, reversing the broader daily trend of net selling. The CVD for the 24-hour close is -$4,780, confirming that the daily average was driven by sellers, but immediate momentum has shifted. Spot volume for the period was $151,207 across 2,062 trades.

The latest daily buy ratio of 35.2% sits at the 2nd percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 50.6% - among the weakest buying days it has had.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 45.6%, making today’s 24-hour ratio of 35.1% notably lower by 10.5 points. This deviation suggests the current day is an unusual one for the coin, characterized by weaker relative buying pressure compared to the weekly norm. Weekly volume was 0.54x the average, indicating significantly reduced trading activity over the longer timeframe. The coin saw only 1 of 7 days with net buying, and the 8-day volume delta totaled -$169,110. Despite these negative flow metrics, the price changed only +1.2% over the eight-day period.
