Pump.fun Enables Memecoin Pairs Against Tokenized Stocks on Solana
news.bitcoin.com reports that Pump.fun now allows users to launch tokens paired directly with tokenized stocks, crypto majors, and metals on Solana. This update introduces Custom Pairs through xStocks and Sunrise, supporting 93 asset pairs and reviving regulatory questions for tokenized equities. Twenty new stock tokens issued by Backpack Securities are live, including shares from Boeing, Alibaba, Costco, Dell, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, Reddit, Rivian, Shopify, and UPS.
These tokens are redeemable 1:1 for underlying shares and can be transferred to traditional brokerages. Creators can launch tokens against assets like NVDAx or TSLAx instead of using SOL or stablecoins as the quote asset. Trading fees can be paid out in the paired token, with half of all revenue flowing into a programmatic PUMP buyback-and-burn contract.
Creators may charge between 0.05% and 1% or offer a cashback model that returns fees to users. DeFi commentator Ignas warned that such models become fragile when speculation cools, noting that volume drops can cause payouts and buybacks to disappear. He cited Coinbase’s 2021 cycle where quarterly trading volume fell roughly 74% within a year, suggesting memecoin activity could decline even more sharply. This launch follows a public clash between AMC CEO Adam Aron and Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev over tokenized equities on Robinhood Chain.
