SUI launches GraphQL subscriptions on Mainnet

Sui (SUI) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that SUI has enabled GraphQL subscriptions on its Mainnet, replacing the legacy JSON-RPC system. This upgrade provides developers with a single interface for accessing both historical and live blockchain data. The feature utilizes WebSocket connections via the endpoint wss://sui-mainnet.mystenlabs.com/graphql to stream checkpoints, transaction blocks, and events.

It includes built-in capabilities such as query-aligned filtering, automatic reconnection, and cursor-based backfilling. This launch marks the final phase of the migration away from JSON-RPC, which was fully phased out on Foundation nodes in late July 2026. Subscriptions allow applications to receive updates instantly through persistent connections rather than repeated polling.

Developers can filter data using GraphQL’s native query language, eliminating the need to sort information client-side. The system ensures that disconnected applications can resume from the exact point of disconnection before switching back to the live stream. Previously, accessing historical data and live updates often required different tools or protocols.

Now, both data flows use the same query language and endpoint. This feature complements SUI’s existing gRPC streaming option, which remains better suited for high-throughput, low-level integrations.
