Bitcoin Routed Through Apple Find My Network Using Cashu Ecash

eCash (XEC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

newsbitcoin.cash reports that a developer successfully transmitted Bitcoin from an offline device by routing it through Apple's Find My network using Cashu ecash tokens. The experiment leverages the Bluetooth radios of millions of iPhones to relay encrypted data payloads without requiring an active internet connection. Nearby devices act as passive couriers, ferrying the token hop-by-hop until it reaches a destination wallet.

The choice of Cashu is critical because its tokens are self-contained, signed bearer instruments denominated in satoshis. Unlike Lightning payments, these tokens do not require pending HTLCs or persistent TCP connections to transfer value. The token travels as data and is redeemed against the mint once the recipient device reconnects to the internet.

This proof-of-concept demonstrates that Bitcoin payments can propagate through dense meshes of consumer devices. It bypasses conventional infrastructure by treating Apple's fleet as an unwitting but functional relay mesh. The technique encodes the token into Bluetooth advertisement data already scanned by Find My devices.

This existence proof suggests that Bitcoin's payment layer is becoming transport-agnostic. It shows that if data can travel via Bluetooth, money can travel with it.

Whalio data shows XEC trading at $0.000008290 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 71.4%, indicating strong immediate buying pressure compared to the 51.8% ratio over the last 24 hours. The 4-hour buy ratio sits at 55.1%, suggesting that while buying is active, the intensity is slightly lower than the most recent hour. Volume delta reflects this activity with positive inflows of $4,599 in the last hour and $2,516 over four hours. Over the full day, the volume delta is +$20,866, though cumulative selling pressure has resulted in a negative CVD of -$26,989. The buy ratio measures the proportion of trades initiated by buyers; a figure above 50% means buyers are dominating the flow. Volume delta tracks the net value of these trades, showing that recent buying has outweighed selling in the short term.

The latest daily buy ratio of 60.0% sits at the 99th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.3% - among the strongest buying days it has had.

Over the preceding week, XEC experienced a price change of -5.1% with a total volume delta of -$300,709. The 7-day average buy ratio was 46.0%, meaning the current 24-hour ratio of 51.8% represents a shift of +5.8 points above the weekly norm. This indicates that today is an unusual day for the coin, with buying pressure significantly higher than the recent average. However, the spot volume of $562,562 is only 0.85x the weekly average, suggesting that while the ratio has improved, the total volume of trading is actually lower than usual. Net buying occurred on only 2 of the past 7 days, contrasting with the current day's more balanced flow despite the negative cumulative delta.
