LayerZero and Coinbase advance quantum-resistant crypto efforts
cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that LayerZero and Coinbase are strengthening blockchains against future quantum threats. LayerZero has released a new post-quantum cryptographic building block to secure digital assets. Simultaneously, Coinbase is gathering Bitcoin developers and cryptographers at Stanford University.
These initiatives address the vulnerability of elliptic-curve cryptography used by Bitcoin and Ethereum. A sufficiently powerful quantum machine could theoretically derive private keys from public keys to steal funds. The urgency increased after a March 2026 whitepaper by Google Quantum AI researchers.
Ryan Babbush and Hartmut Neven stated that breaking 256-bit elliptic curve cryptography requires fewer than 1,200 logical qubits. They also noted it would take around 90 million Toffoli gates, a significant reduction from previous estimates.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for ZRO, measured when this story was written up on 9 September 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
ZRO is trading at $1.13 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 46.1%, indicating that nearly half of all volume is buying pressure. The 1-hour buy ratio of 37.1% and the 4-hour ratio of 44.3% show that buying interest is currently weaker than the daily average. Volume delta is negative across all timeframes, with -$118,767 in the last hour and -$157,091 over four hours. This negative delta means sellers are actively pushing more volume than buyers in the short term. The 24-hour volume delta of -$361,548 confirms that net selling pressure has dominated the day. Despite this, spot volume remains substantial at $4,569,031 with 77,813 trades recorded.
The latest daily buy ratio of 49.7% sits at the 64th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 48.5% - ordinary for this coin.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for ZRO, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, ZRO saw a 7-day average buy ratio of 50.0%, making today's 46.1% reading slightly below normal. The daily buy ratio is 3.9 percentage points lower than the weekly average, indicating a shift toward selling. Volume is also subdued, trading at 0.76 times the weekly average, suggesting lower participation than usual. Net buying occurred on only 2 of the past 7 days, compared to the 9 days of net buying seen in the last 24 hours. This contrast highlights a recent cooling in buying momentum despite the positive news. The 8-day price change of +10.1% shows recent gains, but the current volume delta of -$904,908 for the week reflects ongoing distribution.
