LayerZero Research verifies Jolt bytecode expansion using Lean

LayerZero (ZRO) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that LayerZero Research has completed the formal verification of bytecode expansion for its Jolt zero-knowledge virtual machine. The team utilized the Lean theorem prover to mathematically prove the correctness of 60 out of 67 RISC-V instructions over a period of roughly 2.5 months. This verification ensures that raw RISC-V instructions are correctly transformed into Jolt’s internal representation before zero-knowledge proving occurs.

The process relied on a trusted reference model called LeanRV64D, which is derived from the Sail RISC-V specification. While 60 instructions were fully proven, the remaining seven were not provable due to specific edge cases documented in a published paper. Human engineers defined the critical structures, while AI tools including Claude and Codex accelerated the generation of proofs for repetitive instructions.

Jolt originated from research by a16z crypto and was previously verified using the ACL2 theorem-proving system. LayerZero has since integrated Jolt into its Zero chain, adding GPU acceleration and post-quantum safety features under the names Akita and LatticeJolt. The broader project aims for full correctness of the Jolt zkVM, covering both completeness and soundness. This effort signals continuity with prior a16z work rather than being a one-time exercise.

ZRO is trading at $1.39 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 52.3%, indicating that buyers are currently dominating the market. However, shorter-term pressure shows a shift, with the 1-hour buy ratio dropping to 45.2% and the 4-hour ratio at 48.4%, suggesting immediate buying momentum is fading compared to the daily average. Volume delta reflects this divergence; while the 24-hour delta is positive at $1,016,697, the 1-hour and 4-hour deltas are negative at -$506,543 and -$484,146 respectively. The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close stands at +$1,280,514, confirming net accumulation over the full day. Spot volume reached $20,490,437 across 156,883 trades, with net buying occurring in 16 of the last 24 hours. This data shows that while daily accumulation remains strong, recent hourly flows indicate sellers are gaining ground in the short term.

The latest daily buy ratio of 49.7% sits at the 64th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 48.5% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, ZRO experienced an unusual surge, with the 8-day price change reaching +39.7%. Daily spot volume averaged significantly higher than usual, with the latest day showing 3.08x the average volume. The 7-day average buy ratio was 49.4%, meaning the current 24-hour ratio of 52.3% is +2.9 points above the weekly norm. Despite this elevated activity, net buying was not consistent, with only 3 of the 7 days showing net buying pressure. The total volume delta for the 8-day period was -$174,867, indicating that despite high volume and price gains, sellers absorbed more capital than buyers over the full week.
