Aave Base Equities Hub exposes USDC lenders to weekend gaps

Aave (AAVE) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Cvj.ai reports that Aave’s new Equities Hub on Base allows USDC loans against seven Coinbase stock tokens, creating a risk of bad debt during market closures. Since September 25, the market has accepted AAPLc, AMZNc, GOOGLc, METAc, MSFTc, NVDAc, and TSLAc as collateral for USDC draws. The hub features a $21 million draw cap and a $32 million USDC add cap, which serve as ceilings rather than current deposit levels.

Chainlink equity feeds freeze their price updates from Friday 8 p.m. to Sunday 8 p.m. Eastern Time, while the Aave market remains open for trading and liquidations. This disconnect means a position’s health reading may not reflect fresh stock price moves during the weekend closure. Interest accrual can push positions across the liquidation threshold while the oracle holds its last value.

Liquidators may seize exposure that requires repricing only when the feed resumes on Sunday evening. LlamaRisk recommends a maximum liquidation bonus of 5.5% to compensate for selling or hedging these tokens. Thin secondary depth on Base means larger disposals might need to be split or routed to parties with redemption access. The market was activated via a binding Snapshot vote and Protocol Security Council action, bypassing the standard Aave Governance V3 process.

Aave (AAVE) is trading at $154.58 with a 24-hour spot volume of $15,568,836 and 186,804 trades. The 24-hour buy ratio stands at 53.3%, indicating that buying pressure has outweighed selling over the full day. However, shorter-term momentum shows weakening conviction, with the 1-hour buy ratio at 44.2% and the 4-hour ratio at 45.9%. Volume delta confirms this short-term shift, showing a net outflow of -$76,671 in the last hour and -$139,289 over four hours. In contrast, the 24-hour volume delta remains positive at +$1,050,317, reflecting the cumulative net buying over the longer timeframe. This divergence suggests that while buyers dominated the day, recent intraday activity has turned slightly bearish.

The latest daily buy ratio of 49.4% sits at the 46th percentile of the last 323 days, against a median of 49.8% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, AAVE saw a 7-day average buy ratio of 50.2%, making today’s 24-hour ratio of 53.3% an unusual day with 3.1 points more buying than the weekly norm. Despite the price rise, trading volume was only 0.64 times the weekly average, indicating lower participation than usual. Net buying occurred on four of the seven days, showing intermittent rather than consistent demand. This context highlights a day of stronger relative buying intensity despite lower overall volume compared to the weekly average.
