Aave DAO votes on emergency freeze tools without unfreeze capability
Cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that Aave DAO voters are currently deciding on a proposal to delegate limited V4 risk controls to Risk Stewards on Ethereum and Avalanche. The Snapshot vote began on September 3 at 3:46 p.m. UTC and is scheduled to close on September 6 at the same time. If approved, the system will not activate automatically, as Aave Labs states that corresponding payloads must still be executed by the V4 Security Council.
The proposal assigns no-delay emergency roles that current steward software cannot utilize, granting Risk Stewards Hub and Spoke risk-management and emergency roles. These four specific roles would have no execution delay once granted. Aave Labs noted that the Risk Steward contracts are undergoing a Certora audit, which is nearing finalization.
The code is not presented as fully audited at this stage. The central tension lies between the authority assigned now and the functionality available later. Approval would allow approved operators to make constrained changes without requiring every update through a full governance vote. This structure creates a system where emergency tools can freeze markets but not necessarily unfreeze them.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for AAVE, measured when this story was written up on 6 September 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
AAVE is trading at $134.42 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 55.8%, indicating short-term buying pressure is currently dominant. However, this momentum fades over longer timeframes, with the 4-hour buy ratio dropping to 46.4% and the 24-hour ratio settling at 48.1%. Volume delta data reflects this shift, showing a positive $27,439 in the last hour but negative figures of -$176,527 over 4 hours and -$473,398 over 24 hours. The Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close is -$82,613, suggesting that net selling pressure has outweighed buying over the day. Essentially, while buyers are aggressive right now, the overall trend over the last day shows more sellers than buyers. Spot volume for the period stands at $12,899,274 across 135,221 trades.
The latest daily buy ratio of 49.8% sits at the 52nd percentile of the last 324 days, against a median of 49.8% - ordinary for this coin.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for AAVE, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, the buy ratio averaged 48.3%, making today’s 24-hour reading of 48.1% nearly identical to the weekly norm. Volume activity was also standard, trading at 0.76 times the average daily volume. This indicates that today’s trading behavior is not unusual for the coin. The price has risen 6.1% over eight days, despite a total volume delta of -$3,093,141 for the period. Only one of the past seven days saw net buying, highlighting that sustained accumulation has been rare recently.
