Aave founder Stani Kulechov proposes token burn for Aavenomics 3.0

Aave (AAVE) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that Aave founder Stani Kulechov is considering a token burn mechanism to replace the protocol's current automated buyback model. This potential shift would permanently remove AAVE tokens from circulation, rather than accumulating them in the DAO’s Ecosystem Reserve as done under Aavenomics Part One. The initial buyback program authorized up to $1 million weekly, accumulating over 205,000 tokens by mid-2026.

Following the April 2026 governance framework, Aavenomics 3.0 launched in late June 2026 to channel all revenue into continuous secondary market purchases. Kulechov suggests that buying and destroying tokens is the logical next step to shrink total supply. He notes that held tokens can still be sold or used as collateral, whereas burned tokens are gone forever.

Aave has generated more than $2.2 billion in total fees since inception, with annualized revenue at approximately $134 million. The earlier program’s $52 million annualized budget represents a significant portion of this revenue directed into token demand. Kulechov has not yet specified the mechanical details or whether the burn would replace or supplement existing reserves. The community expects further details during an upcoming quarterly call.

AAVE is trading at $149.47 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 65.7%, indicating strong immediate buying pressure that contrasts with the 24-hour ratio of 42.6%. This suggests that while buying pressure is building in the short term, it has faded over the full day. The 1-hour volume delta is positive at $2,702,158, showing net inflows, whereas the 24-hour delta is negative at -$3,317,236, reflecting net outflows over the longer period. A positive volume delta means buyers are executing more aggressive market orders than sellers, while a negative delta indicates sellers are dominating the volume. The 24-hour cumulative volume delta closed at +$4,711,991, with spot volume reaching $22,323,603 across 345,130 trades.

The latest daily buy ratio of 49.4% sits at the 46th percentile of the last 323 days, against a median of 49.8% - ordinary for this coin.
