Cardano joins x402 SDK for AI agent payments

Cardano (ADA) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Cardano has officially joined the x402 SDK, an open HTTP payment standard originally driven by Coinbase and now managed by the Linux Foundation, according to crypto-economy.com. The Cardano Foundation announced via X that any application or artificial intelligence agent can now make payments in ADA or Cardano Native Tokens directly over web requests. This integration requires no account, API key, or payment page, allowing services already on x402 to enable the feature immediately.

The move deepens a relationship that began in July 2026 when the foundation joined x402 as an associate member alongside entities like Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Google, AWS, and Coinbase. By early September, the network confirmed that its integration existed as functional code with client, server, and facilitator examples merged into the protocol repository. Additionally, the Cardano Foundation joined the Mastercard Crypto Partner Program for cross-border payments and B2B transactions. Meanwhile, developers of Ouroboros Leios demonstrated a capacity of approximately 1,000 transactions per second, compared to the current 4.5 TxkB/s on mainnet.
