Petrobras tests Cardano for sustainable aviation fuel tracking

Cardano (ADA) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that Petrobras is using Cardano to track sustainable aviation fuel benefits. The Brazilian energy giant is testing the blockchain to prevent double-counting of environmental attributes. The Cardano Foundation announced this collaboration on September 30.

The project involves Petrobras, PUC-Rio University's Ledger Labs, and the Cardano Foundation. It focuses on Petrobras' renewable fuel brand, Diesel R. The system addresses issues where fuel buyers differ from environmental benefit buyers. It uses a Book-and-Claim model for these transactions.

Environmental attributes are represented as standardized CS-SAF tokens on Cardano. These tokens can be created, transferred, checked, and retired. Retirement ensures the same attribute is not claimed twice. The digital record traces allocation back to the original fuel certificate.
