Aptos launches MonoMove upgrade for faster contracts

Aptos (APT) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptowisser.com reports that Aptos Labs announced the launch of MonoMove, described as the network's largest scalability upgrade. This new execution engine aims to deliver speed and safety for onchain markets, processing smart contracts up to 55 times faster. The upgrade targets constant actions like order books, collateral checks, and price feeds that require high performance.

Aptos is a Layer 1 Proof-of-Stake blockchain using the Move programming language, which allows for parallel transaction execution. The network claims a theoretical throughput of over 150,000 transactions per second via its Block-STM engine. This contrasts with Ethereum’s mainnet, which processes approximately 12 to 15 transactions per second.

The project raised $200 million in a seed round in March 2022 led by Andreessen Horowitz. A subsequent Series A round in July secured another $200 million from investors including Dragonfly and Jump Crypto. The native token, APT, was trading at $0.7753 at the time of the announcement, down 5.7%.

Whalio data shows APT trading at $0.8260, with a 1-hour buy ratio of 39.8% indicating immediate selling pressure. However, the 4-hour buy ratio sits at 52.4%, suggesting that buying interest is building over a slightly longer timeframe compared to the short term. The 24-hour buy ratio is 46.1%, showing that buying pressure has faded over the full day. Volume delta reflects this shift, dropping to -$71,103 in the last hour after a positive $80,771 in the previous four hours. A negative 24-hour volume delta of -$924,234 confirms that sellers have dominated the day's net flow. Despite this, the cumulative volume delta closed at +$67,970, indicating that net buying occurred during the majority of the day's trading hours.

The latest daily buy ratio of 51.2% sits at the 79th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.3% - stronger buying than most days.

Trading volume was 1.18 times the average, indicating an unusual spike in activity compared to a typical day. Only one of the past seven days saw net buying, highlighting a generally bearish weekly trend. The price increased by 4.5% over eight days, despite a total volume delta of -$4,394,918 for the period. This suggests that recent price gains occurred despite significant net selling pressure over the week.
