Cosmos EVM Hacker Minted $50 Million — and Walked Away With Just $60,000
beincrypto.com reports that an attacker exploited a vulnerability in the Cosmos EVM to move $50 million of Nesa (NES) off the project’s chain. Blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps traced the wallets involved in the incident. Liquidity vanished from the pools before the selling finished, and extreme slippage swallowed almost the entire position. The attacker ultimately walked away with just $60,000 of the stolen value.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for ATOM, measured when this story was written up on 27 August 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
Whalio’s Binance spot data for ATOM shows a price of $1.51 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 53.5%. This compares to a 60.3% buy ratio over the last 4 hours and 54.5% over the last hour, indicating that short-term buying pressure is fading relative to the recent four-hour window. The Volume Delta is positive across all timeframes, with a 24-hour total of +$158,332 and a 1-hour delta of +$15,379. A positive Volume Delta means buyers are actively initiating more market orders than sellers, while the buy ratio shows the percentage of trades executed by buyers. The flow indicates sustained net buying activity over the day, with 19 out of 24 hours showing net buying.
The latest daily buy ratio of 44.7% sits at the 9th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.8% - among the weakest buying days it has had.

Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for ATOM, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, ATOM saw a 7-day average buy ratio of 50.7%, meaning today’s 24-hour ratio of 53.5% is 2.7 points higher than the weekly average. However, the 24-hour spot volume of $2,283,205 is only 0.74 times the weekly average volume, suggesting lower-than-usual trading activity. The 8-day price change was +1.3%, with a total Volume Delta of +$382,584 over that period. This is an ordinary day for the coin in terms of directional bias, as net buying occurred on 4 of the last 7 days, but unusual in its subdued volume relative to the weekly norm.
