Arya.ag Pilots Tokenized Grain Receipts on Avalanche

Avalanche (AVAX) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cvj.ai reports that Indian agri-fintech Arya.ag is testing a blockchain system to tokenize warehouse receipts for stored grain on a dedicated Avalanche layer-1. In partnership with Finternet, the pilot connects grain deposits, collateral commitments, and loan status to streamline lending. Devika Mittal, Ava Labs’ head of India, confirmed that testing is underway and that each token represents ownership of the stored commodity.

Finternet director Sanmesh Kalyanpur described the creation of a composite token that combines farmer, commodity, and warehouse data for bank risk assessment. This initiative aligns with a 2024 Bank for International Settlements paper co-authored by Nandan Nilekani and Agustín Carstens. Arya.ag currently holds about $2 billion in agricultural commodities and supports approximately 120 billion Indian rupees in loans annually.

Its lending arm, Arya Dhan, issues about $230 million in loans each year, though these figures do not yet represent on-chain assets. The pilot aims to enhance transparency and reduce fraud in agricultural lending. While the launch date and specific coverage scale remain undisclosed, the project could significantly boost the $1.3 billion in real-world assets already tokenized on Avalanche. Challenges remain regarding regulatory clarity and the operational accuracy of data entered by samplers.
