South Korea Unveils Roadmap for On-Chain Capital Markets Powered by Avalanche

Avalanche (AVAX) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Crowdfundinsider.com reports that South Korea is preparing a progressive program to move conventional capital-market products onto blockchain rails. On September 4, 2026, the Financial Services Commission presented a staged policy roadmap for tokenized securities following a public-private council meeting at the Korea Securities Depository. The legal build-out begins when amended electronic-registration rules take effect on February 4, 2027, treating tokenized instruments as digitized securities rather than a separate crypto class.

The first wave of tokenized instruments will be narrow, including privately pooled money-market funds, privately placed corporate bonds for institutions, and unlisted shares tokenized through a trust. Officials are also piloting work with the Korea Exchange, drawing on experiments discussed at venues such as the NYSE and Nasdaq. Phase two would open this machinery to publicly offered securities more broadly, while phase three introduces an on-chain payment layer to settle tokenized stocks, bonds, and funds with stablecoins.

The Avalanche official account stated the commission was laying the groundwork to bring stocks, bonds, and funds on-chain, “powered by Avalanche.” This claim is supported by Avalanche’s existing Korean institutional footprints, including a won-backed stablecoin proof of concept and tokenized trade-receivables activity involving POSCO International. However, the commission’s press text names no public chain, suggesting Avalanche is claiming a central role based on local partnerships rather than exclusive designation. If the depository screens distributed ledger connections firm by firm, more than one network could theoretically plug into the same legal wrapper.
