Alameda BTC Transfer Highlights Trump Reserve Fine Print

Bitcoin (BTC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that a US government wallet moved a small amount of Bitcoin linked to assets seized from Alameda Research’s Binance.US accounts, sparking fears of potential liquidations. President Donald Trump’s March 2025 executive order designates forfeited Bitcoin as a long-term Treasury asset that shall not be sold, a stance he reinforced on Aug. 19 by calling Bitcoin a permanent asset of the United States Treasury. However, the order permits agency heads to dispose of digital assets under specific exceptions, including court orders, legal requirements, and restitution to identifiable victims.

Court records in US v. Bankman-Fried list roughly 682 BTC seized from two Alameda accounts, with a smaller transaction bringing the total to about 683.71 BTC, valued at roughly $53.6 million near a BTC price of $78,463. These coins are part of an $11 billion forfeiture order, with the Department of Justice already drawing on it to pay victims directly, including a $627.9 million interbank settlement received in October 2025. The order creates a separate US Digital Asset Stockpile for other assets like the 750.72 WBTC listed in the Alameda schedule, where the Treasury Secretary retains discretion over sales.

CryptoSlate notes that public trackers estimate US-controlled Bitcoin between 198,000 and 328,000 BTC, a gap of 130,000 BTC worth close to $10.2 billion, due to differing legal categories. Some Alameda coins may qualify as protected reserve assets, while others remain tied to an active restitution process explicitly permitted by the order. A larger movement in July saw about $297 million of seized BTC and ETH sent to Coinbase Prime, which supports institutional sales. This activity highlights the distinction between the permanent reserve and the forfeiture process designed to pay back victims.

Whalio data shows BTC trading at $79,023.75 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 49.9%, indicating near-even distribution between buyers and sellers. Short-term pressure is slightly bearish, as the 1-hour buy ratio sits at 44.5% and the 4-hour ratio at 46.3%, both below the 50% equilibrium. Volume delta confirms this tilt, showing a net outflow of -$5,843,612 in the last hour and -$26,934,662 over four hours. Over the full day, the cumulative volume delta is -$903,088, suggesting that selling pressure has slightly outweighed buying interest recently. The 24-hour close CVD is -$106,618,789, reinforcing that aggressive buyers were outpaced by sellers during this period. Net buying occurred in only 6 of the last 24 hours, highlighting a lack of sustained bullish momentum.

The latest daily buy ratio of 46.7% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.2% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 51.6%, meaning today’s 24-hour ratio of 49.9% represents a -1.7 point drop from the weekly norm. Spot volume for the day was $1,148,236,056, which is only 0.54x the weekly average, indicating significantly lower trading activity than usual. While the coin gained +14.0% over the past 8 days, the current session shows reduced participation compared to the broader weekly trend. This is an unusual day for the coin, characterized by both lower volume and a shift toward net selling compared to the generally balanced weekly average. The weekly volume delta of +$445,688,281 contrasts sharply with today’s negative intraday deltas, showing that recent selling is a deviation from the week’s overall accumulation pattern.
