Bitcoin Climbs Above $85,000 Amid Regulatory Clarity

Bitcoin (BTC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Bitcoin rose more than 5% on Monday, with the Nasdaq Bitcoin Reference Price Index reaching 85,455.85 on Sept. 21, according to Qazinform News Agency. This increase represents a 5.19% jump from the previous close of 81,236.39, adding over 4,200 points to the asset's value. The price surge follows developments in US digital-asset regulation, specifically a proposal by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Aug. 18 for a tailored offering regime for crypto investment contracts.

Earlier in March, the SEC and the Commodity Futures and Trading Commission issued an interpretation to clarify how federal securities laws apply to certain crypto assets. This interpretation aimed to provide greater clarity for market participants. Previously, Bitcoin had surged above $77,000 for the first time since May.

That earlier rally was driven by favorable macroeconomic signals and easing in the bond market. Political support for digital assets also contributed to the momentum leading up to the current price levels.

Current spot data shows Bitcoin trading at $86,620.00, with a 24-hour buy ratio of 51.8%, indicating a slight majority of buyers over the full day. However, shorter-term pressure shows a shift, with the 1-hour buy ratio dropping to 41.6% and the 4-hour ratio at 49.6%. This suggests that immediate buying momentum is fading compared to the sustained daily trend. Volume delta reflects this short-term hesitation, showing a net outflow of -$12,930,200 in the last hour and -$2,401,144 over four hours. In contrast, the 24-hour volume delta remains positive at +$94,075,438, confirming that net buying has dominated the broader session. The cumulative volume delta closed at +$53,434,490, with net buying occurring in only 9 of the 24 hours.

The latest daily buy ratio of 46.7% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.2% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio stood at 51.9%, making today's 24-hour ratio of 51.8% nearly identical to the weekly norm. Trading activity has intensified significantly, with spot volume reaching $2,702,559,884, which is 2.23 times the weekly average. This elevated volume coincides with an 8-day price increase of 10.8%. Total volume delta for the week reached +$418,456,661, with net buying recorded on 5 of the 7 days. This indicates that while the current day is not unusual in terms of buyer dominance, the volume surge marks a notable acceleration in market participation.
