Genius Group Targets $2B Treasury After Bitcoin Liquidation
cvj.ai reports that Genius Group, an NYSE-listed AI education firm, plans to build parallel AI and Bitcoin treasuries worth $1.6 billion, targeting $2 billion in total assets by 2031. This strategy marks a pivot after the company liquidated its entire Bitcoin stash in April to repay $8.5 million in debt. The firm had adopted a 'Bitcoin first' strategy in late 2024 but sold its holdings at a loss, reducing its peak of 440 BTC in February 2025 to about 84 BTC by February 2026.
Genius Group intends to fund the new treasuries through a perpetual preferred stock offering, targeting an initial $12.5 million raise from its $1.2 billion SEC-cleared shelf registration. CEO Roger James Hamilton stated, 'Every dollar of preferred capital deployed into our bitcoin and AI Treasury that generates returns above the preferred dividend rate flows directly to our ordinary shareholders’ net asset value.' This approach reduces reliance on the ordinary share ATM program, making preferred capital the primary funding tool.
The move mirrors strategies by Strategy, which raised over $16 billion via perpetual preferred stock, and Strive Asset Management, which raised more than $150 million similarly. The earlier accumulation was disrupted by a court order blocking fund-raising, which forced the sale of roughly 86 BTC in a single month. With the court order presumably resolved, the company aims to leverage preferred capital to build a diversified treasury.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for BTC, measured when this story was written up on 28 August 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
Bitcoin is trading at $80,249.58 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 53.6% and a 4-hour buy ratio of 50.1%, indicating short-term buying pressure. However, the 24-hour buy ratio has dropped to 45.2%, showing that buying interest is fading over the longer timeframe. The volume delta reflects this shift, with positive inflows of +$1,905,004 in the last hour and +$291,505 over four hours, contrasting with a significant outflow of -$123,102,218 over 24 hours. This negative 24-hour volume delta suggests that sellers have dominated the market over the past day. The cumulative volume delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close matches the total outflow, confirming the net selling pressure. Despite the daily outflow, the recent hourly data shows a brief resurgence of buyer activity.
The latest daily buy ratio of 46.7% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.2% - weaker buying than most days.

Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for BTC, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 51.1%, making today's 24-hour ratio of 45.2% notably lower by 5.8 percentage points. Spot volume for the 24-hour period was $1,297,370,375, which is 0.65 times the weekly average, indicating significantly reduced trading activity. While the 8-day volume delta was positive at +$171,556,665, the current day shows a sharp reversal into net selling. The coin has gained 9.9% over the last eight days, with net buying occurring on 5 of the 7 days in that period. This suggests that while the week has been generally positive, today represents an unusual day of decreased volume and net outflows compared to the recent trend.
