Kimi K3 AI Model Finds 8,000 Bitcoin Vulnerabilities

Bitcoin (BTC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that the volunteer Bitcoin Red Team used the open-weight AI model Kimi K3 to audit 501 Bitcoin projects. Over 108 hours, the model identified 7,958 potential security issues, with 1,280 rated as high or critical severity. Kimi K3 outperformed rivals like Zhipu’s GLM-5.2 in standardized benchmarks, though it still trails behind leading closed-source US models.

The most significant finding was a critical two-factor authentication bypass in BTCPay Server version 2.4.2, which had already been exploited in the wild. The audit was triggered by a July 2026 firmware flaw in the Coldcard Mk3 that led to the theft of approximately 594 BTC. While the UK’s AI Safety Institute scored Kimi K3 at 32% on ExploitBench, US models averaged 76% on the same test.

Only 24.7% of the findings could be dynamically reproduced, and 29.4% had been communicated to project teams at the time of reporting. This effort highlights a shift in the economics of code auditing, as Kimi K3 scanned hundreds of projects in days rather than weeks. The Red Team intensified its work after the model’s release between July 16 and 27, 2026. Despite the efficiency gains, a significant performance gap remains between open-weight and closed-source vulnerability detection tools.

Bitcoin is trading at $77,439.00 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 41.7%, indicating immediate selling pressure. However, the 4-hour buy ratio sits at 50.7%, suggesting that buying interest is stabilizing over a slightly longer timeframe. Volume delta shows a net outflow of -$4,839,683 in the last hour, contrasting with a net inflow of +$2,939,204 over the past four hours. This divergence implies that while short-term traders are selling, longer-term flow remains positive. The 24-hour volume delta is strongly positive at +$10,575,840, confirming sustained accumulation over the day. Despite this, the cumulative volume delta (CVD) for the 24-hour close is -$13,985,008, indicating that total sell volume has outweighed buy volume throughout the day.

The latest daily buy ratio of 46.7% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.2% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 49.3%, making today’s 1-hour reading of 41.7% notably lower than the weekly norm. The 24-hour volume delta of +$10,575,840 contrasts with the 8-day total volume delta of -$107,307,292, highlighting a recent shift toward net buying. Volume relative to average is at 0.91x, indicating slightly subdued trading activity compared to the weekly baseline. Price has declined 1.4% over the last eight days, with only three of the past seven days showing net buying. This suggests that while recent hours have seen improved flow, the broader weekly trend remains bearish.
