Starknet Foundation Mines First Post-Quantum Bitcoin Transaction

Bitcoin (BTC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that the Starknet Foundation has successfully mined the first post-quantum resistant Bitcoin transaction on the mainnet. Damian Chen, VP of growth at the Starknet Foundation, announced the achievement at Bitcoin Asia in Hong Kong on Thursday. The transaction utilized a method developed by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, which secures funds without requiring soft forks, hard forks, or core protocol upgrades.

This new format, dubbed QSB, protects against future quantum attacks by generating millions of signature candidates to find one that does not expose vulnerable cryptographic material. The process is computationally expensive, taking hours to produce a single transaction, but this cost ensures resistance to quantum shortcuts. Chen explained that even if an attacker derives a private key from an exposed public key, they cannot authorize a fraudulent transfer.

Because ordinary Bitcoin nodes do not recognize this non-standard format, the transaction was handed directly to a miner rather than entering the public mempool. Mining company MARA’s Slipstream service was the entity that mined this historic QSB transaction. Chen emphasized that the critical question is not when quantum computing will arrive, but how long it will take for the industry to be ready.

He stated, “This is the first post-quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction on bitcoin mainnet today. It required no soft forks; it required no hard forks; it required no core protocol upgrades, and it’s live today.”

BTC is currently trading at $80,249.58, with spot volume reaching $1,297,370,375 over the last 24 hours. Short-term buying pressure is building, as the 1-hour buy ratio stands at 56.2% compared to a 4-hour ratio of 50.1%. This shift is reflected in the Volume Delta, which shows a net inflow of +$14,786,394 in the last hour, contrasting with a 24-hour delta of -$123,102,218. The buy ratio indicates the proportion of trades executed by buyers versus sellers, while the volume delta measures the net value of those trades. A positive delta suggests that buyers are currently more aggressive than sellers in the immediate term. However, the broader 24-hour trend remains negative, with a CVD of -$94,617,260 and only 6 hours of net buying recorded in the day.

The latest daily buy ratio of 46.7% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 49.2% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, the 7-day average buy ratio was 51.1%, making today’s 24-hour ratio of 45.2% a decrease of 5.8 points. Volume activity has also cooled, with today’s volume sitting at 0.65 times the weekly average. While the price has risen 9.9% over the past 8 days, the current trading day shows less relative enthusiasm compared to the weekly norm. The 8-day total Volume Delta was +$171,556,665, indicating that buying pressure has been stronger over the longer term than it is right now. This suggests that while the trend is upward, today’s trading activity is quieter and less buyer-dominant than the average day in the past week.
