Swiss Bitcoin Pay Shuts Servers After Data Breach
Bitcoin Magazine reports that Swiss Bitcoin Pay temporarily shut down its servers on Monday following a data breach. The Neuchâtel-based non-custodial payment processor confirmed that user funds remain safe despite the incident. A malicious user likely accessed internal systems, compromising customer email addresses, Bitcoin addresses, IBANs, transaction history, and hashed passwords.
The company stated it is shutting down servers as a precaution while it investigates and secures its infrastructure. Swiss Bitcoin Pay assured that any amounts owed to users will be fully returned. This event adds to a recent series of security issues affecting Bitcoin and fintech firms.
Last week, Revolut disclosed that unauthorized parties received customer passports, driver’s licenses, and transaction histories. Additionally, hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor warned that a breach in its marketing platform led to phishing attacks targeting customers. Swiss Bitcoin Pay enables businesses to accept Bitcoin payments via on-chain transactions and the Lightning Network. The company did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
