Tesla Bitcoin Holdings Near $1B as Price Surges
DigitalToday reports that Tesla’s bitcoin holdings are approaching a $1 billion valuation as the asset price rises. Blockchain media outlet DeCrypt noted on September 23 that Tesla currently holds 11,509 BTC, valued at approximately $994.9 million. On-chain data firm Arkham confirmed that Tesla has held this exact amount for four years without moving a single coin.
Over the past week, bitcoin rose about 14 percent, increasing the value of Tesla’s holdings by roughly $122.6 million. This gain is purely from market price appreciation rather than new purchases or realized profits. Tesla initially invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin in early 2021 and later suspended bitcoin payments for vehicle purchases.
The company’s largest disposal occurred in 2022, when it converted substantial holdings into traditional currency for about $936.0 million in proceeds. Each $1,000 move in bitcoin now changes the value of Tesla’s remaining 11,509 BTC by about $11.5 million. Arkham stated that the holdings are now about $5.1 million short of the $1 billion mark. The current book value is expected to shift sharply depending on future bitcoin price movements.
