DogeOS launches Chikyū testnet for Dogecoin smart contracts

Dogecoin (DOGE) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that DogeOS launched a public testnet on Wednesday, September 30, introducing Ethereum-style smart contracts to the Dogecoin platform. The new Chikyū testnet is a zero-knowledge roll-up compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) that uses Dogecoin to pay transaction fees. This development aims to expand DOGE's utility beyond simple payments and trades, allowing it to function as programmable capital within decentralized applications.

The base Dogecoin chain remains unchanged, with these new applications built on top of it. DogeOS describes itself as an EVM-compatible application layer, enabling Ethereum developers to use familiar code, dependencies, wallets, and tools. The network intends to facilitate trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, gaming, and other app types. However, the developer testnet is not yet a mature ecosystem, as the user manual lists dApps as “coming soon.” The team announced on X that work is ongoing in payment solutions, decentralized finance, gaming, and marketplaces.
