DogeOS Testnet Launch Expands Dogecoin DeFi Capabilities
cryptotimes.io reports that DogeOS launched a public testnet on September 30 to bring Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and DeFi apps to Dogecoin. The application layer allows developers to build and test tools using DOGE for transaction fees without altering the main blockchain. Built as a zero-knowledge rollup, the network settles state to the Dogecoin network while relying on a permissioned sequencer and validators.
Projects like Barkswap, Superposition Finance, and Derps are already developing liquidity, lending, and perpetual exchange solutions on the testnet. The Dogecoin Foundation, represented by Timothy Stebbing, supports the project for adding utility while preserving the base ledger's simplicity. Founder Jordan Jefferson stated the testnet provides a space to turn Dogecoin-related ideas into working applications.
The project secured $6.9 million in funding led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Currently, security depends on operators and trusted execution environments rather than direct miner verification. A proposed Dogecoin Core upgrade called OP_CHECKZKP aims to enable native zero-knowledge proof verification in the future. DogeOS distinguishes itself from previous efforts like Dogechain and Shibarium by maintaining closer ties to the official Dogecoin ecosystem.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for DOGE, measured when this story was written up on 1 October 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
Following the announcement, DOGE traded at $0.09456, showing a mixed immediate reaction with a 1-hour buy ratio of 38.0% and a 4-hour ratio of 45.6%. These short-term figures sit below the 24-hour buy ratio of 50.2%, indicating that buying pressure is fading in the most recent hours. The 1-hour volume delta was -$1,230,962, while the 4-hour delta was -$803,669, suggesting net selling pressure in the short term. However, the 24-hour volume delta remained positive at +$301,633, showing that net buying outweighed selling over the full day. The Cumulative Volume Delta closed at -$1,281,971, highlighting that aggressive buying was outweighed by aggressive selling in the final hours. Spot volume reached $82,317,737 with 642,419 trades, reflecting active market participation.
The latest daily buy ratio of 37.6% sits at the 0th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 48.9% - among the weakest buying days it has had.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for DOGE, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, the 7-day average buy ratio stood at 50.9%, with the latest day showing a slight dip of 0.8 points relative to that average. Trading volume was 0.84x the weekly average, indicating a quieter day than usual. The coin experienced a 2.0% price increase over the eight-day period, with a total volume delta of +$19,427,458. This suggests that while the immediate short-term flow shows some weakness, the broader weekly trend remains net positive. The current day fits within a pattern of six days of net buying out of seven, though the volume intensity is lower than the weekly norm.
