Shibetoshi Nakamoto Jokes About $1.2 Trillion Dogecoin Purchase

Dogecoin (DOGE) Editor: Eugene Serbin

According to thearabianpost.com, Dogecoin co-creator Markus, known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, posted a remark on X on September 12 regarding President Donald Trump’s proposed $5,000 payment to US citizens. Markus suggested that instead of cash payments, the government should buy $1.2 trillion of Dogecoin and distribute it to Americans. This figure mirrors the estimated cost of Trump’s dividend proposal, which the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget calculated would exceed $1.2 trillion in a single year.

The proposal is conditional on Republicans retaining control of Congress in the November midterms. At the time of the post, CoinGecko data valued Dogecoin at approximately $13.1 billion, making the proposed purchase more than 90 times the token's market capitalization. Markus noted the figure with a laughing emoji, indicating it was not an actionable government program.

The source confirmed there is no evidence the White House, Treasury, or Congress is considering such a purchase. Dogecoin has roughly 171.6 billion coins in circulation, with no fixed maximum supply. Markus created the cryptocurrency with Jackson Palmer in 2013 before both left active development in 2014.

Whalio spot data shows Dogecoin trading at $0.08483 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 46.4%, indicating a slight bearish tilt over the full day. Short-term pressure shows 43.0% buying in the last hour and 47.5% over four hours, suggesting immediate selling pressure is outpacing the daily average. The negative Volume Delta indicates that sell volume exceeded buy volume during these periods. Over 24 hours, the total Volume Delta was -$1,650,810, confirming net outflows from spot markets. Net buying occurred in only 8 of the 24 hours, highlighting inconsistent support.
