Open USD launches with Chainlink oracle and major partner backing

Chainlink (LINK) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bsc.news reports that Open Standard has selected Chainlink as the official data oracle for its newly launched Open USD stablecoin, which went live on September 30. The token is issued by Bridge, a firm owned by Stripe, and is being released natively on Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo. Open Standard has secured more than 200 partners, including founding members Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa, who each received an equal initial equity stake.

These founding partners have committed over $1 billion to help establish OUSD liquidity in the coming months. Chainlink's price feeds will enable DeFi platforms to use OUSD as collateral for lending protocols, liquidity pools, and perpetual futures contracts. Reserves for the stablecoin are held at BlackRock, Lead Bank, and BNY, with Bridge publishing monthly attestations.

The economic model allows businesses to mint and redeem OUSD at par without fees or volume caps, while participating companies collect most of the income generated by the token's reserves. Open Standard aims to make stablecoin usage as easy as fiat for banking, cross-border payments, and institutional trading. Pi Network has also joined as a partner to explore OUSD rewards for its community. The stablecoin enters a market worth over $300 billion, challenging incumbents like Tether and Circle with a wider ownership structure.

Whalio spot data for LINK shows a price of $14.37 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 44.0%, indicating that selling pressure has dominated the full day. However, the 1-hour buy ratio has risen to 50.6%, suggesting that buying interest is beginning to build in the most recent hour after a 4-hour period of 45.1% buying. The volume delta reflects this shift, turning positive at +$6,921 for the last hour compared to a negative -$299,486 over the previous four hours. Volume delta measures the difference between buy and sell volume, so a positive delta means buyers are aggressively absorbing sell orders. Despite this short-term improvement, the 24-hour volume delta remains deeply negative at -$7,017,115, showing that net selling has been the primary flow for the day.

The latest daily buy ratio of 49.4% sits at the 56th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 48.8% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, LINK averaged a 50.8% buy ratio, making today's 24-hour reading of 44.0% a notable deviation of 6.8 percentage points below the norm. Volume activity has also cooled, with today's volume at 0.88 times the weekly average, indicating reduced participation compared to the previous seven days. While the coin saw a 16.3% price increase over eight days, the current day shows a distinct shift toward net selling. This represents an unusual day for the asset, as it recorded only 2 days of net buying out of the last 7, contrasting with the recent intraday recovery. The weekly volume delta was positive at +$1,848,880, but today's negative delta contributes to a less bullish immediate outlook despite the broader weekly uptrend.
