NEAR AI Cloud API achieves OpenAI compatibility for developers

NEAR Protocol (NEAR) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that NEAR AI Cloud launched full OpenAI compatibility on December 3, 2025, allowing developers to switch infrastructure by changing a single URL and API key. The new setup supports both chat completions and legacy completions endpoints, with Python and JavaScript SDKs functioning out of the box. Requests are routed through a central gateway or directly to model-specific endpoints running inside Trusted Execution Environments, or TEEs.

These TEEs act as hardware-enforced private computation chambers where models process data in an environment even the host operator cannot inspect. NEAR’s TEE-hosted models, including GLM 5.2 variants, utilize Intel TDX combined with NVIDIA confidential computing hardware. Every request includes a complete attestation, providing cryptographic proof that computation occurred inside a genuine secure enclave without tampering.

Around July 2026, NEAR introduced a staking-based payment mechanism for AI compute credits, giving the NEAR token direct utility. The model catalog expanded between July and September 2026 to include integrations with LiteLLM, Aider, and Continue. This approach extends NEAR’s developer-focused philosophy by offering familiar AI tooling with blockchain-sourced privacy and payment infrastructure. However, TEE-based inference adds latency compared to standard GPU compute, and staking payments introduce token price volatility into enterprise operating costs.
