AWS Copilot end-of-life risks database deletion during migration
dev.to reports that AWS ended support for the Copilot CLI on June 12, 2026, and archived the repository ten days later. Although ECS services continue running, teams migrating to Terraform face risks when deleting the original Copilot stacks. The author analyzed the source code to identify four specific dangers in this process.
First, nine of thirteen Lambda-backed custom resources perform destructive actions upon deletion, ignoring any subsequent Terraform imports. Second, the env-controller removes shared resources like ALBs and EFS when the last dependent service stack is removed. Third, nested stacks for Aurora, DynamoDB, and S3 lack deletion policies, meaning the parent stack deletion destroys the database.
Finally, the --retain-resources flag is ineffective for stacks already in a DELETE_FAILED state. To mitigate these risks, the author created an open-source CLI tool called ecsodus. On September 30, they successfully tested the tool against a real Copilot v1.34.1 app containing five stacks and 49 resources. The tool currently supports Load Balanced Web Services and Backend Services, with App Runner support planned next.
How the market reacted
Whalio's own Binance spot order flow for STX, measured when this story was written up on 1 October 2026. Not the outlet's figures.
STX is trading at $0.3719 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 50.6% and a 4-hour buy ratio of 51.9%. These short-term metrics are slightly below the 24-hour buy ratio of 51.7%, indicating that immediate buying pressure is stabilizing rather than accelerating. Volume deltas show positive inflows of +$8,242 over the last hour and +$58,031 over the last four hours. The Cumulative Volume Delta for the 24-hour close is +$409,115, suggesting that buyers have been more aggressive than sellers throughout the day. This net buying activity occurred over 16 of the last 24 hours, with a total spot volume of $8,093,460 recorded.
The latest daily buy ratio of 55.9% sits at the 87th percentile of the last 323 days, against a median of 50.8% - stronger buying than most days.
Was that an ordinary day?
The same Binance spot measurements for STX, averaged over the days leading up to the story.
Over the preceding week, STX experienced a 7-day average buy ratio of 53.4%, which is 1.7 percentage points higher than the latest daily reading. Volume activity was notably elevated, reaching 3.72 times the average daily volume. The price increased by 20.7% over the eight-day period, accompanied by a total volume delta of +$1,057,659. While the recent day shows slightly lower buy dominance, the volume surge suggests strong interest compared to the standard daily baseline.
