HashKey Cloud joins Stacks Bitcoin staking launch

Stacks (STX) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that HashKey Cloud joined Stacks as a launch partner for self-custodial Bitcoin staking on September 7. The agreement assigns HashKey Cloud to the inaugural Genesis Bond and the signer network securing sBTC. Stacks founder Muneeb Ali presented the collaboration during an event in Hong Kong alongside Cactus Custody.

HashKey Cloud manages approximately HK$29 billion in staked assets and operates infrastructure across more than 40 blockchain networks. The Genesis Bond is expected to begin around September 10, though Stacks has not confirmed an exact activation time or final capacity. The first cohort includes institutional participants such as 21Shares and UTXO Management.

This product allows institutions to earn BTC-denominated rewards without transferring Bitcoin to a centralized custodian. Bitcoin committed to the bond remains visible on the base blockchain, allowing observers to inspect timelock transactions independently. Stacks uses Proof of Transfer, where miners commit BTC to compete for block production and distribute rewards. The new PoX-5 design requires participants to timelock BTC on Bitcoin and lock STX on Stacks for a bond term of approximately six months.
