Unicoin sues Uniswap over UNI trademark rights

Uniswap (UNI) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Tradersunion.com reports that TransparentBusiness, operating as Unicoin, has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Unicoin seeks a declaration that its use of the UNICOIN name does not infringe on Uniswap’s rights to the UNI, UNISWAP, and UNICHAIN trademarks. The company is also asking the court to cancel Uniswap’s U.S. trademark registration for UNI.

Additionally, Unicoin claims that its unicoin.com and unicoin.org domains do not violate the federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act. Uniswap previously sent three demand letters on June 3, July 17, and August 14, accusing Unicoin of trademark infringement, dilution, cybersquatting, and unfair competition. Uniswap demanded that Unicoin stop using UNI-based marks, transfer its domains, disclose revenue figures, and reimburse legal costs.

Unicoin rejected these demands and is now seeking a court ruling confirming its brand does not violate Uniswap’s rights. The legal dispute began shortly before Unicoin’s scheduled UNCN token launch on September 28. At the time of the filing, Uniswap ranked first among decentralized exchanges by daily trading volume. According to DeFiLlama, that volume exceeded $3.9 billion.
