Uniswap StablePair Hook Flaws May Drain LP Returns

Uniswap (UNI) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cvj.ai reports that Uniswap’s new StablePair hook, launched on September 10 for USDC/USDT and USDC/USDG pools, aims to capture rebalancing profits but exposes liquidity providers to depeg and inventory risks. The hook uses a static reference rate rather than external market prices to determine fees, meaning it cannot protect LPs if a stablecoin loses its peg. For example, if a coin’s value drops to $0.90 while the reference remains at parity, LPs suffer a $1,000 loss on 10,000 coins before fees are even considered.

The system caches the pool price at the start of each block, which can lead to stale inputs and mispriced fees if the live price crosses the reference mid-block. Trades classified as moving away from the reference pay zero LP fees, potentially increasing LP exposure to weakening assets without generating offsetting income. Governance controls live fee configurations, but upgrades cannot block LP withdrawals or alter swap amounts to skim additional fees.

OpenZeppelin reviewed a predecessor’s core fee mechanism from February 9 to 13, 2026, resolving a splitting issue through block caching, though the later upgradeability was outside that review. As of September 30, the USDC/USDT StablePair pool held $6.1 million in TVL with $117.9 million in 24-hour volume, while the USDC/USDG pool had $2.6 million TVL and $8.7 million volume.
