Ethena USDe Oracle Risk Scored 7/10 in dev.to Report

Ethena USDe (USDe) Editor: Eugene Serbin

dev.to published a security analysis on 1 October 2026 regarding Ethena USDe, a collateral-backed stablecoin with approximately $4.86 billion in total value locked across Ethereum and L2 networks. The report, prepared by an independent Senior DeFi Security Researcher, identifies oracle integrity as the protocol's most critical security pillar due to its reliance on Chainlink, Band, and Redstone price feeds. A high risk score of 7 out of 10 was assigned, indicating a significant probability that a well-funded adversary could manipulate the oracle to cause a de-peg or liquidation cascade.

The analysis highlights four primary attack vectors, noting that while multi-source aggregation is used, gaps remain in the price-averaging module and downstream logic. Immediate remediation of priority-one items, such as price-staleness enforcement and reporter slashing, could reduce the risk score to the 4-5 range. The researcher noted that removing DEX-fallback from critical logic and implementing circuit-breakers would dramatically shrink the attack surface.

Without these changes, the protocol remains vulnerable to unbacked minting and exploitation of design weaknesses. The findings suggest that current mitigations are insufficient to fully protect the $4.8 billion exposure against sophisticated on-chain or off-chain resources.
