MoneyGram Launches Stellar-Powered Visa Card in Colombia

Stellar (XLM) Editor: Eugene Serbin

bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that MoneyGram has entered the stablecoin debit card market with a pilot launch in Colombia. The new virtual Visa card is built on the Stellar (XLM) blockchain network and was developed in partnership with fintech platform Rain and crypto service Crossmint. Users can convert digital dollars directly into everyday purchases through the MoneyGram app after completing identity verification.

The card instantly links to Apple Pay or Google Wallet for contactless payments at any retailer accepting Visa. A key feature is automatic conversion at checkout, where USDC balances are converted into fiat pesos for settlement via Visa’s global network. Stellar provides transaction speed while Crossmint supplies the wallet custody infrastructure.

MoneyGram confirmed the card will soon support its own stablecoin, MGUSD, which was issued on Stellar earlier this year. This architecture aims to transform remittances by allowing recipients to move directly to cashless payments instead of withdrawing cash. By the end of 2026, MoneyGram plans to issue physical cards for ATM withdrawals and expand the service to other countries in the region. Users are reminded that stablecoin balances are not bank deposits and lack government deposit insurance.

Whalio data shows XLM trading at $0.1746 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 55.0%, indicating short-term buying interest. However, the 4-hour buy ratio drops to 42.9%, suggesting that this buying pressure is fading over a slightly longer timeframe. The 1-hour volume delta is positive at +$35,334, but the 4-hour delta is negative at -$251,859, showing that sellers have dominated the last four hours. Over the past 24 hours, the buy ratio sits at 46.2% with a negative volume delta of -$1,123,461. This indicates that net selling has outweighed net buying throughout the day. The latest daily buy ratio of 47.8% sits at the 16th percentile of the last 324 days, against a median of 50.7% - weaker buying than most days.
