US Bank completes live USBDC stablecoin pilot on Stellar

Stellar (XLM) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that US Bank has successfully completed a live pilot of its proprietary USBDC stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain. Executed on September 9, the test involved real-time cross-border payments between the bank's North American and European divisions. This achievement marks a landmark moment for bank-issued digital currencies operating on public blockchains.

The pilot verified the full lifecycle of the stablecoin, including minting, payment execution, redemption, freezing, and clawback functionality. It was designed to integrate seamlessly with existing systems for risk management, compliance, finance, and operations. US Bank previously collaborated with the Stellar Development Foundation and PwC on stablecoin testing in November 2025, establishing this as a continuation of that relationship.

CEO Gunjan Kedia emphasized that the pilot plays an essential role in accelerating global cash management. Jamie Walker, Head of Digital Assets and Money Movement, highlighted the focus on addressing real client challenges with advanced bank-grade controls. The groundwork began in October 2025 when the bank created a dedicated Digital Assets and Money Movement organization. US Bank is the fifth-largest banking institution in the United States and has identified future applications including 24/7 payments and liquidity management.
