Zcash NU7 Upgrade Activates on Testnet with Faster Blocks

Zcash (ZEC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptocurrency.com.tr reports that Zcash has activated its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet at block 4,465,026. This activation shifts the target block interval from 75 seconds down to 25 seconds. If services maintain a three-confirmation policy, the target wait time drops from 225 seconds to approximately 75 seconds.

The network is currently using valueless coins to allow developers and infrastructure operators to rehearse the upgrade. NU7 also redirects 60% of transaction fees into a future-reward reserve. Per-block rewards are cut to preserve the ZEC issuance schedule, and Sprout transactions are disabled.

This change marks a shift from the previous 75-second target to the new 25-second goal. The upgrade is currently a testnet trial rather than a mainnet change. Zcash (@zcash) confirmed the activation, highlighting the move to disable version 4 transactions.

ZEC is trading at $1,352.37 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 55.1%, indicating that buyers are currently in control. However, the 1-hour buy ratio has dropped to 45.6%, and the 4-hour ratio is even lower at 38.2%, suggesting that short-term buying pressure is fading. The 24-hour volume delta is positive at $9,866,928, but the 1-hour delta is negative at -$622,575. This means that while net buying has occurred over the day, recent trades have been predominantly selling.
