ZKsync Opens Source Prividium Engine as Bundesbank Tests Platform
Bsc.news reports that Matter Labs, the developer behind ZKsync, has open-sourced the permissioning engine at the core of its Prividium platform. This move allows regulated institutions to run, inspect, and modify the software within their own infrastructure without a commercial agreement with Matter Labs. The decision addresses feedback that a commercial core created a single vendor dependency, which structurally removes adoption barriers.
Prividium operates as a private, permissioned chain inside an operator's infrastructure, with transactions anchored to Ethereum for settlement finality. The engine uses ZKsync's zero-knowledge technology to prove correctness via cryptography rather than trusted intermediaries. Deutsche Bundesbank is the first institution to test and deploy Prividium in its own infrastructure.
Matter Labs CEO Alex Gluchowski stated that open-sourcing the core allows institutions to run a permissioned chain from public code. Other components like the ZKsync OS core and the Atlas sequencer were previously open-sourced. This development occurs as the Eurosystem works on Pontes to connect market DLT platforms with Europe's TARGET payment services. The ECB and Bundesbank plan an initial launch for Pontes in the third quarter of 2026.
