Aptos builds infrastructure for AI agents to rent GPUs and settle payments in stablecoins

Aptos (APT) Editor: Eugene Serbin

cryptobriefing.com reports that Aptos is developing infrastructure to enable autonomous AI agents to rent GPUs and settle payments in stablecoins. The Layer 1 blockchain aims to become the default settlement layer for machine-to-machine commerce by offering fast, cheap rails. This initiative relies on the x402 payment protocol and a partnership with io.net to allow agents to rent idle GPU capacity on demand.

Settlements occur in USDC with transactions finalizing in under 50 milliseconds and fees below $0.0005. Since its May 2025 launch, the x402 ecosystem has processed over 100 million payments, with USDC accounting for more than 99% of settlements. Aptos CEO and Co-Founder Avery Ching stated that agents need fast, cheap, and programmable payments with spending limits and audit trails.

Ching emphasized that stablecoins, particularly USDC, are the optimal medium for agent-to-agent transactions due to their programmable spending controls and enterprise auditability. The stablecoin market cap on Aptos currently stands at approximately $1.9 billion. Through the io.net partnership, Aptos launched Agent Cloud around March 2026, where smart contracts handle terms and USDC handles the money. In May 2026, the Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs committed $50 million to fund AI agent tools, supporting Decibel for on-chain order books and Shelby for decentralized storage.

APT is trading at $0.7250 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 56.6%, indicating immediate buying pressure that contrasts with the 49.4% ratio over the past 4 hours. The 24-hour buy ratio sits at 49.3%, suggesting that the short-term buying surge has faded into a neutral-to-slightly-bearish trend over the longer timeframe. A positive volume delta of +$170,570 in the last hour shows net buying activity, which reverses the negative deltas of -$17,500 over 4 hours and -$412,272 over 24 hours. The cumulative volume delta (CVD) closed at -$395,944 for the 24-hour period, confirming that sellers have dominated the day's volume despite the recent spike. Net buying occurred for only 10 out of 24 hours, highlighting that the buying pressure is not consistent throughout the day. Spot volume reached $29,121,828 with 156,305 trades, reflecting active market participation.

The latest daily buy ratio of 50.0% sits at the 59th percentile of the last 323 days, against a median of 49.3% - ordinary for this coin.

Over the preceding week, the average buy ratio was 50.0%, making the current 24-hour ratio of 49.3% only marginally lower by 0.7 points. However, the 24-hour spot volume of $29,121,828 is 2.98 times the weekly average, indicating an unusually high level of trading activity compared to normal days. While the price rose 20.6% over eight days, the total volume delta for that period was -$330,666, showing that selling pressure offset the price gains. This suggests that the recent price increase was driven by volume rather than sustained net buying. The current day's elevated volume relative to the average marks it as an unusual trading day for the coin.
