ether.fi Stake Governance Review Highlights High Risk Score

ether.fi (ETHFI) Editor: Eugene Serbin

dev.to published a governance attack surface review for ether.fi Stake on 11 September 2026. The protocol, which aggregates deposits and issues eSTETH, holds approximately $4.53 billion in TVL across Ethereum and L2 networks. Its governance relies on the eSTETH-GOV token to control a Timelocked Governor, a Proxy-based Upgradeability pattern, and a Cross-Chain Bridge.

The review assigned an overall risk score of 7 out of 10 to the protocol's design. Researchers identified concentrated voting power and a short timelock as key vulnerabilities. A single EOA currently owns the upgradeability, creating a centralization risk.

The bridge relayer is also replaceable, which could allow an adversary to manipulate cross-chain liquidity. These weaknesses could enable a seizure of the upgrade path and potential loss of user funds. The analysis combined severity ratings with a qualitative matrix calibrated to DeFi industry standards. The governance layer has operated without major incidents to date despite these high-severity weaknesses.

ETHFI is currently trading at $0.6647 with a 24-hour buy ratio of 53.7%, indicating that buyers are slightly outpacing sellers over the full day. This buying pressure is fading in the shorter term, as the 1-hour buy ratio sits lower at 49.7%. The 4-hour buy ratio of 51.2% suggests a brief period of balanced activity between the two extremes. Volume delta shows a positive flow of $1,521,962 over 24 hours, contrasting with a slight negative delta of -$2,179 in the last hour. This indicates that while cumulative buying has been strong, immediate momentum has slowed. The CVD for the 24-hour close is +$1,436,545, confirming net accumulation over the longer timeframe.

The latest daily buy ratio of 47.2% sits at the 18th percentile of the last 324 days, against a median of 49.5% - weaker buying than most days.
