Solana passes double disinflation proposal after late stake shifts

Solana (SOL) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Bitcoinethereumnews.com reports that the Solana community narrowly approved the SGP-0002 double disinflation proposal on Friday. The measure secured 67% support from participating stakes, clearing the two-thirds majority threshold required for passage. Voting concluded with 176.26 million SOL in favor, while 25.16% voted against and 7.84% abstained.

Overall participation reached 60.7% of eligible stake, exceeding the one-third quorum requirement. The approved change doubles the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, allowing Solana to reach its 1.5% terminal inflation floor in 2.8 years instead of 5.7 years. This adjustment is projected to reduce issuance by 18.9 million tokens over six years.

The vote remained below the approval threshold until the final minutes when large stakeholders shifted positions. Kraken’s validator reversed its stance, while Galaxy-linked validators and the Drift protocol moved toward approval. Helius founder Mert stated he made hundreds of outreach efforts to secure the final votes. He noted in an X post that they passed the proposal by a literal hair after 500 calls in the final hours.

Solana is trading at $101.75, showing a decline in buying pressure compared to the previous 24-hour period. The 1-hour buy ratio stands at 39.7%, and the 4-hour ratio is 41.9%, both lower than the 24-hour average of 47.8%. This indicates that buying momentum is fading in the short term relative to the daily trend. Volume deltas are negative across all timeframes, with -$6.46 million in the last hour and -$11.18 million over four hours. These negative deltas mean that sell volume has exceeded buy volume during these periods. The 24-hour volume delta is -$9.15 million, confirming net selling pressure over the full day.

The latest daily buy ratio of 48.8% sits at the 27th percentile of the last 322 days, against a median of 50.0% - weaker buying than most days.

Over the preceding week, Solana saw a 7-day average buy ratio of 52.4%, which is 4.5 percentage points higher than today's 24-hour reading. Weekly volume was 0.56 times the average, indicating significantly lower activity than usual. While the price rose 6.6% over eight days, today's volume delta of -$9.15 million contrasts with the week's total positive delta of $104.59 million. This suggests that today is an unusual day of net outflow after a generally bullish week. The current selling pressure represents a sharp reversal from the net buying seen in six of the previous seven days.
