Kalshi gold contracts overtake Ethereum volume as short-term bets surge

Ethereum (ETH) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Digitaltoday.co.kr reports that Kalshi's 15-minute gold contracts surpassed Ethereum contracts in volume within weeks of their launch. By October 7, gold contracts totaled 542 million with estimated fees of $5 million, while Ethereum contracts reached 318 million with $2.6 million in fees. The gold market, which allows bets every 15 minutes on price direction, launched in August and quickly outpaced Ethereum.

Bitcoin remained the largest market by scale, generating $60.4 million in fee revenue. Kalshi reported that commodities trading volume hit $400 million in September, more than four times the crypto market volume at that point. Short-term contracts are gaining share rapidly, with the 15-minute bitcoin market becoming the largest group by July.

Ethereum 15-minute contracts rose from 6.1 million in January 2026 to 318 million in September. InGame analysis noted that 15-minute markets generated 80 percent of non-sports fees despite only 13 percent of volume share. This fee concentration occurs because Kalshi's formula charges higher rates as contract probability approaches 50-50. The platform's expansion into commodities mirrors the growth path previously seen in crypto markets.
