Circle sponsors Chelsea FC with USDC on match shirts
cvj.ai reports that Circle has secured a landmark deal to make USDC the front-of-shirt sponsor for Chelsea FC. This partnership places a stablecoin at the center of one of football’s most iconic brands to transform USDC into a household name. Circle backs USDC with cash and cash-equivalent assets, primarily held in a government money market fund holding short-term US Treasury securities.
Although these reserves earn interest, USDC holders do not receive those returns, with reserve income accounting for roughly 95% of Circle’s second-quarter revenue. At the end of June, $73.3 billion of USDC was outstanding, and Circle reported $668 million in reserve income for the second quarter. The sponsorship aims to build brand recognition among millions of fans who may not understand the product but will remember the name.
Chelsea also renewed its partnership with BingX for the 2026/27 season, which features training-kit branding. This timing coincides with Premier League clubs removing gambling companies from front-of-shirt spots starting in the 2026/27 season. The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority identified 18 arrangements involving 13 clubs and financial providers without authorization, though it found no evidence of illegality.
