Lloyds and Visa settle $750k USDC in under an hour

USDC (USDC) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Lloyds Banking Group and Visa completed a seven-day pilot settling $750,000 in cross-border obligations using USDC, as reported by crypto.news. The transaction reached Visa in under an hour, even during weekend hours, contrasting with traditional settlement times that can exceed a day. Lloyds purchased the USDC through the UK-regulated exchange Archax and utilized its own Canton node for the transfer.

Visa supported the settlement on a separate public blockchain, demonstrating that stablecoin settlement can function across different network environments. The trial focused on institutional settlement rather than consumer payments, testing round-the-clock capabilities and improved fund visibility. Peter Left, head of digital assets at Lloyds Banking Group, stated that settling $750,000 of live obligations allowed the bank to move beyond theory into a real-world setting.

He noted that digital money could make international payments faster, more transparent, and more flexible for businesses. Visa’s group country manager for the UK and Ireland, Rob Cameron, added that the pilot shows how stablecoins can work alongside existing banking infrastructure to provide more choice over settlement timing.
