Ethereum removes staking burn from Hegota upgrade

Ethereum (ETH) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Tradersunion.com reports that Ethereum’s plan to burn a growing share of validator staking rewards is being removed from the Hegota upgrade. This decision follows pushback from industry participants and core contributors who argued that an issuance change requires a separate review track rather than a fork scoping process. Jérôme de Tychey, co-author of the proposal and president of Ethereum France, stated that feedback convinced him the fork scoping process was the wrong venue for this policy change.

The authors now plan a separate process on issuance that runs through EthCC in April. Forums and workshops will be part of this new effort to address the issuance debate. The withdrawal means the Hegota upgrade no longer serves as the vehicle for this specific policy change.

Discussion over validator rewards will continue in a dedicated forum instead. Lido has offered to help steer the next phase of this process.
