Ethereum Targets 200 Million Gas Limit After Svalbard Meetup

Ethereum (ETH) Editor: Eugene Serbin

Thecurrencyanalytics.com reports that Ethereum developers are pushing to more than triple the network's block capacity, aiming for a gas limit of 200 million compared to the current 60 million. This aggressive target follows a developer meetup in Svalbard and relies on three technical projects: ePBS, Block-Level Access Lists, and EIP-8037. EIP-8037 adjusts gas pricing for state-heavy operations to prevent bloat, while Block-Level Access Lists allow parallel processing by declaring touched accounts upfront.

Enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) moves block building and proposing into the protocol via the Glamsterdam upgrade. Prysm and Teku clients already support testnet configurations up to 200 million, signaling infrastructure readiness. The Sepolia testnet deployment is scheduled for October 6 to stress-test these changes.

Developers note that state growth could triple with the new limit, making node operation heavier for modest hardware. No mainnet date is set, as validators will adopt higher limits gradually based on client stability.

ETH trades at $2,706.42 with a 1-hour buy ratio of 58.6%, indicating strong immediate buying pressure relative to selling. This short-term bullish sentiment contrasts with the 24-hour buy ratio of 49.4%, suggesting that the intense buying is recent and not sustained over the full day. Volume Delta shows a net inflow of $1,794,068 in the last hour and $8,400,238 over four hours, confirming active accumulation. However, the 24-hour Volume Delta is negative at -$8,490,209, meaning selling pressure outweighed buying over the longer timeframe. CVD at the 24-hour close sits at -$7,968,515, reflecting the net outflow of spot volume. Spot volume for the period reached $709,347,818 across 3,118,217 trades.
